In Loving Memory of Muriel J. Mott
Muriel J. MottDunmore, PA June 15, 1922 ~ December 4, 2015 Date of Service: December 7, 2015
Muriel J. Mott, 93½, of Dunmore, died Friday at VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Merlin R. and Mayme Most Mott, she was a 1936 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Before retirement in 1996, she was employed as an executive secretary at both Capitol Records and Jacobson Hat Co.
Muriel was a lifelong member of the Dunmore United Methodist Church, which was a cornerstone in her life. She was an active choir member and devoted Sunday School teacher and served her church as a board secretary and eventually became a lay speaker. Muriel was a member of the United Methodist Women's Group, holding various leadership positions at the district and conference levels. She was also a member of Church Women United and served as a board member for Wesley Village in Jenkins Twp.
She enjoyed attending the weekly bible study at Asbury United Methodist Church. She was a strong Christian woman and devoted to her Lord. Muriel was also a Girl Scout leader for many years.
Muriel loved her many wonderful friends and neighbors throughout her long life. She was always there if needed, they loved her in return and she appreciated everything they did for her.
Muriel had a strong servant's heart. In her younger days, she was a rare woman who could drive and had a car. She would take her mother and friends to many church activities. She would take as many as she could in one trip and then return to make more trips to get everyone who wanted to go.
She enjoyed traveling and was always the driver for many trips with friends to Ocean Grove, N.J., and many other destinations far and wide from Maine to Florida. She enjoyed cruises and traveling in Europe.
Her friends would like to thank the staffs of Scranton Manor, Green Ridge Health Care, Regional Hospital of Scranton and VNA Hospice for the excellent care given to Muriel. They would especially like to thank her doctor, Dr. Diane Ciaglia, for her care and compassion.
Surviving are her loving friends and caregivers, Gail Snyder, Scranton; and Christine Beck, Dunmore.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Dunmore United Methodist Church, 222 S. Blakely St., Dunmore. Interment will be in Dunmore Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday morning from 9:30 until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dunmore United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 222 S. Blakely St., Dunmore, 18512.
