In Loving Memory of James Dildine Hill

James Dildine Hill, 73, Dunmore and St. Augustine, FL, died Tuesday evening in Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton. He and his wife, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Lucia, would have celebrated their 52^nd wedding anniversary on August 29^th.

Born in New York City, he was the son of the late William A. and Sylvia Dildine Hill. Jim was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY.  Prior to retirement he worked for 35 years with Con Edison as a Supervisor in Gas Operations, and then for 10 years at Suffolk County Community College as a Health and Safety Officer. He attended mass regularly at SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and had been a volunteer coach for the Holy Cross High School Girls Soccer Team. Jim was an avid runner having participated in many races ranging from 5K’s to full marathons. He grew up in St. Albans, NY, and always kept close ties with friends from the old neighborhood.  He had a love and enjoyment of libraries and reading; when traveling he would never fail to seek out the local library. Jim loved to prepare his signature dishes for family and friends – world famous pancakes and homemade macaroni and cheese.

Also surviving are a daughter, Jeanne Hill, Dunmore, two sons, James Hill and his wife Beth, Duxbury, MA, and Christopher Hill and his wife Lisa, King Park, NY; a sister, Jane Brock, Ronkonkoma, NY; four grandchildren, Megan and Billy McDonough, Dunmore, and Madison and Katie Hill, Duxbury, MA, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street in Dunmore.

Friends may call Sunday from 2pm-5pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the Scranton Public Library, 500 Vine Street, Scranton, PA 18509 and/or Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library, 124 Sea Grove Main St., St. Augustine Beach, FL 32080.
