Irving Gilman, 87, of Scranton, died Monday afternoon in Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Ackerman.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Louis and Ida Kaufman Gilman, he was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and, before retirement, he was a self-employed businessman in the garment industry. Irving was also a reporter with the Abington Journal and The Suburban for many years.
He was a member of B'nai Brith, the Jewish Community Center and Temple Israel of Dunmore. He had been an avid New York Yankees fan.
In addition to his wife, surviving are sons, Keith Gilman, of Clarks Summit; Scott Gilman and wife, Megan, of Spring Brook Twp.; and Todd Gilman and wife, Maxine, of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren Amy, Larry, Abby, Emma, Jack and Sarah Gilman; brother, Herman Gilman and wife, Cathy, of Factoryville; as well as nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery by Rabbi Mordechai Fine.
Friends will be received during shiva at the family residence, 514 Wheeler Ave., Scranton, on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.
