Irene A. DeMuro, 87, of Dunmore, died Tuesday morning, January 13th, at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late George and Irene Hoover Buchanan and was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School. She was a member of our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Dunmore and prior to retirement she was a seamstress in the local garment industry.
She had a passion for writing short stories and poems and received many awards for her poems. She received a certificate from the Library of Congress for her writings and was a member of the National Poet’s Society. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed.
Surviving are sons, Dan and wife Jean, Muncy; and Kenneth and wife Joan, Dunmore, grandchildren, Christopher DeMuro and wife Lora Beth, Temecula,CA; Michael DeMuro and wife Whitney, Hughesville; Daniel DeMuro, Jr., Warner Robins, GA; Kandace Sparacino and husband Matthew, Throop; and Anthony DeMuro and wife Colleen, Dunmore; great-grandchildren, Giada Sparacino and Nicholas and Deklan DeMuro; sister Clare Smith, Parsippany, NJ; and brother George Buchanan and wife Rea, Sunbury; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Margaret Ann DeMuro.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore.
