Gertrude T. Sheridan, 90, of Dunmore, died Tuesday morning at the Mountain View Care Center, Scranton. Her husband, Joseph T. Sheridan, died Dec. 24, 1982. The couple had been married for 31 years.
Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Julia Kelly Clarke and was a graduate of Dunmore High School and the former ICS International Correspondence Schools, Scranton. She was a member of St. Paul/St. Clare Parish, Scranton, and, before retirement, she worked for the Dunmore School District as a food server in the high school cafeteria.
She was a devoted member and president of the Theresians group and was a member of St. Joseph's Auxiliary for many years and often bragged about being the chairwoman of their annual chicken dinner. Gert was a longtime member of the former Christ the King's quilting club and enjoyed her meetings at Cooper's Restaurant with her two best friends, Marion Clauss and Madeline Marinucci. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and watching them in their concerts, dance recitals, plays and football games. She loved family parties and, ironically, passed away on her favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day. She also enjoyed taking trips to Boston to see the Red Sox play.
The family wishes to thank the nurses, the kitchen staff, the physical therapy department, but especially the nurse's aides at Mountain View Care Center, who treated their mother with kindness, compassion and love. You will never know how much she loved you.
