In Loving Memory of Donald P. Moore, Sr.
Donald P. Moore, Sr.Dunmore, PA November 27, 1939 ~ December 1, 2015 Date of Service: December 4, 2015
Donald P. Moore, Sr., 76, of Dunmore, died Tuesday afternoon the Regional Hospital of Scranton after a long, hard battle for the past couple of years. He and his wife, the former Elaine “Cookie” Parola, celebrated 55 years of marriage on September 3rd.
Born in Dunmore to the late Michael Moore and Mabel Garrett Roe, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1957 and went on to enlist in the United States Air Force Security Services, serving in Japan for two years. Prior to retirement, he was employed at the Tobyhanna Army Depot as a computer analyst and thereafter by the J.C. Penney call center in Moosic.
Donald tirelessly fought to remain on this earth to be with Cookie, his soulmate for the past 62 years. The love and bond they shared was so beautiful. Their commitment to each other is that which fairytales are made. He dedicated his life to others. He was a man who coached for many years, then became president of his beloved Dunmore Little League, devoting over 25 years of his time. When that was done, he joined the District II Little League board, where he was named Assistant District Administrator, just to stay involved. Additionally, was a past president and coach for Dunmore Midget Football. He wasn't a guy who just gave of his time when his children were playing. He was truly devoted to ALL kids, especially his DUNMORE BUCKS. He was also an active member of the Dunmore Senior Center.
Donald’s faith in God was unwavering, never so evident as when we lost our son and brother, Donny. Where others would have questioned and shied away from the church, he gained comfort in his faith that all would be okay. He had been a loyal and committed member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and its Holy Name Society.
Donald has instilled in all of us that we were put on this good earth to help others. That is the legacy left for his children, for his family, and for his friends. The outpouring of love and support from the community is a testimony to the kind of gentleman that Donald was.
“We love you and miss you, but will find comfort in knowing that you and Donny are already planning a baseball game in heaven with all who have gone before you. Give Donny a hug for us. Until we meet again.”
In addition to his wife, Cookie, Donald is survived by his daughter, Susan Moore of Otisville, NY; a sister, Irene Morgan of Mansfield; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donny, in 2003; and his brother, Thomas Moore.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore. Interment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township.
