Ann Marie Summa Nocilla DeCicco, 81, of Dunmore, died early Friday in the V.N.A. Hospice at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Vincent DeCicco, who died in 1979.
Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Salvatore and Rose Pietrifase Summa, Ann Marie was a graduate of Dunmore High School and went on to obtain her degree in nursing, later working at Allied Services, the former Community Medical Center, and as a private duty licensed practical nurse. Prior to retirement, she had also worked in ticket sales of the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour.
A devout Catholic, Ann Marie was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore, and was known as a selfless and generous woman, who would help anyone that came to her in need of help and advice. She never hesitated to give her time and tended to her family and friends without hesitation. She truly loved life and all that it had to offer, especially enjoying her tips to Hawaii, Alaska and Italy. She had been a member of the M.A.C. Club, and formerly active in the Red Hat Society, and the W.T.S. Club where she had served as secretary. In her younger years, she had been an avid bowler.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be deeply missed.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff of V.N.A. Hospice, in addition to Dr. John Diakiw, for all of the kindness and care shown to Ann Marie during her times of need.
Surviving is a daughter, Cheryl A. Nocilla, with whom she resided; a son, Stephen Nocilla and wife Norma of Archbald; granddaughter Nicole Stein and husband Bruce of Archbald; a sister, Jane Buselli of Dunmore; and former husband, Richard Nocilla of Las Vegas.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Michele Nocilla; sisters Carmella Colangelo, Margaret Rizzo, and Gracie Scaccia; a brother, William Summa; and beloved dog and companion, Maggie.
The funeral will be Wednesday, May 27th, from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore. Inurnment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 26th, from 4-6 p.m.
