Angelo W. Sciartilli, 87, of Dunmore died Tuesday afternoon
in the Green Ridge Health Care Center, Scranton. His wife of 65 years is the
former Vincentina “Jane” Benfante.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and
Margaret Rinaldi Sciartilli and step-son of the late David Himchak. He attended
the Dunmore Public Schools and was a member of SS Anthony and Rocco Parish,
A United States Navy Veteran, he joined the service on
November 11, 1943 and served until April 20, 1946. During his service he was
awarded the Pacific Theater and American Theater Ribbon, Victory Metal and
Philippine Liberation Ribbon. After the service, he returned to Dunmore where
he met his future wife, Vincentina and the coupled married on April 17, 1948. They moved to his
home on Electric St. where he resided until the last few months of his life.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by William’s Bakery
until it closed and was also employed by the University Of Scranton as the
building supervisor of St. Thomas Hall. He was a member of the University Order
Pro Deo et Universitate, the Dunmore Council Number 1022 Junior Order United
American Mechanics and the American Legion.
The family wishes to thank the nurses, aids and staff of the
Green Ridge Health Care Center for all of their care and compassion especially
to Anita and Pat from Hospice Community Care during the past two weeks for
helping the family during a very difficult time.
Also surviving is a son; James and wife Elaine, Scranton; a
grandson; Jason and wife Tammy and great-grandsons; Colin James and Connor
Joseph Sciartilli, all of Dunmore. Sisters; Mary Yazdzik, Dunmore and Rita
Garvey, Moscow and sister-in-law; Mary Ann Benfante, Dunmore. Nieces, nephews
The funeral will be Saturday from the
Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with
Mass at 9:30am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore.
Interment, Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends may call Friday from 4-7pm
