Ellen Ann Kaufman Carroll, 61, Bristol, RI, died Monday evening at the St. Elizabeth Manor in Bristol, Rhode Island, after a prolonged illness.
Born in Scranton, daughter of Irving Kaufman and the late Frances Rothman Kaufman, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School. She went on to graduate from the Albert Einstein School of Nursing in Philadelphia, becoming a registered nurse, and was later certified as a legal nurse practitioner. She remained in the Philadelphia area for most of her adult life before moving to Rhode Island to reside with her sister, Sandra, four years ago. Prior to the onset of her illness, Ellen was a passionate gardener, seamstress and extraordinary chef. As her illness progressed, she was still able to observe her Judaism, celebrating her Bat Mitzvah two years ago. Throughout her life, music was in her soul, and she enjoyed listening to it and dancing, which brought her great pleasure and peace to the very end.
Also surviving are a son Russell Adamczyk, wife Jaime, and their daughter Rebecca, Plantation, FL; a sister Sandra Kaufman, Barrington, RI; a brother Howard Kaufman and wife Robin, Plainview, NY; aunts Esther Kaufman, Queens, NY and Ruth Fallick, Scranton; seven nieces and nephews; and, four great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, October 16 at 11 a.m. in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Joseph Mendelsohn and Cantor Vladimir Aronzon. Shiva will be observed Saturday, October 22 from 7:30-9 p.m., and Sunday, October 23 from 1-5 p.m. at the Clarks Summit Senor Living, 950 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit.
