Mary Lou Hughes

Mary Lou Hughes,88, of Dunmore, passed away on Sunday morning at Marywood Heights after a brief illness.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert H. Hughes in 2008.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John and Marion Daily Palmer, she was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She retired from Harper Collins Publishers following decades of dedicated services.

Mary Lou was a devout Catholic belonging to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she cherished her time as a choir member and was a volunteer with the finance sector of the parish.

Mary Lou was married to the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” for 53 years.  She was a kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humor.  Her family was her world and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her children Robert Hughes and wife Brenda, Deborah Zielinski and husband Thomas, and Thomas Hughes and fiancé Lynn Mulherin; grandchildren Bradley Hughes, Charissa Wagner and husband David, Christopher Zielinski and wife Kate, Keith Zielinski and wife Laura, Craig Zielinski and wife Kayla, Ryan Hughes and wife Briana, Robert Hughes and wife Nicole, Matthew Hughes and husband Jonathan, and Adrianna Hughes; great grandchildren, Owen Hughes, Lili Hughes, Benjamin Zielinski, Nathan Zielinski, Allison Zielinski, Matthew Zielinski, Claire Zielinski, Angelina Wagner, Alexa Wagner, Logan Hughes and Evelyn Hughes; a brother, Timothy Palmer and wife Ann Marie; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John “Jack” Palmer, Thomas Palmer, and James Palmer.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St. Dunmore with a Mass at 9:30am at St. Mary’s Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore.

Interment, Dunmore Cemetery

Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday morning from 8:15am until 9:15am at the funeral home.
