Yetta Ecker, 94, of Scranton and formerly of Brooklyn, NY, died Sunday evening in Geisinger-Community Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ecker, who died in 1978.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Israel and Sophia Hammeroff Wallach, she attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn. Prior to retirement, she was employed in the Housing Department for the city of New York. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her smile would always light up a room. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and Jewish Women International. Yetta spent the last three and a half years of her life in the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania where she received loving care from all the staff members there.
Surviving is a daughter Phyllis Weinberg and husband Michael, Clarks Summit; five grandsons, Jonathan Bandel, Terrence Bandel and wife Danielle; Howard Wilensky and wife Genna; Danny Wilensky; and Josh Wilensky; three great-grandchildren, Jonah Bandel, Landon Wilensky and Drew Wilensky; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Lois Ecker Wilensky.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E.
Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Dovid Saks, Director of the Jewish Heritage Connection. Interment in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Flushing, NY. Friends will be received during shiva at the residence of her daughter Phyllis, 92 Abington Gardens in Clarks Summit on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m.; Thursday 2-5 and 7-9 p.m.; Friday, Sunday and Monday from 2-5 p.m.
