William J. Gallagher, 60, of Dunmore, died Sunday afternoon at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. He is survived by his wife, the former Anne Paone. The couple would have celebrated 11 years of marriage Dec. 19.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Thomas J. Sr. and Lois J. Willams Gallagher, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton. He was a 1972 graduate of Dunmore High School and a 1978 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University. He started his career with International Salt as an engineer but retired from Waste Management as a senior district manager after 28 years.

Bill was a man who loved his family and riding his Harley-Davidson. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and was a member of the Elmhurst Country Club. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Martin Hyzinski and staff, Dr. Jerald Gilbert and staff, and the entire staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their loving care, compassion and support.

Also surviving are daughters, Candice, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Deidre, New Orleans, La.; brothers, Thomas Jr., Roaring Brook Twp.; and Jamie and wife, Michelle, Lake Ariel; a sister, Lynn Lucas and husband, Steve, Shippensburg; nieces and nephews, Kelly, Tommy, Kaela and Stephen; a great-nephew, Evan; a father-in-law, Robert J. Paone Sr., Archbald; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Avenue, Scranton. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Foundation for Cancer Care, 236 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18503; or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

Billy was a great guy & friend. Played basketball together, joked around, & always tip,d us at Christmas time. our prayers are with Gallagher family,may our Lord Jesus Christ bless you all!

Some people may not be a constant presence in ones life, but can leave a lasting impression. Bill would always go out of his way to acknowledge you and say hello or talk with you. To me he was the big guy with an equally big heart! My sincere and deepest sympathy to all the Gallagher Family.

My deepest condolences to the entire Gallagher family .I had the pleasure of golfing with Bill on Wednesday night with the Bell league always looked forward to my match with Bill.He was a great person to be with always upbeat .He will be truly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Anne & Gallagher Family,

Bill was a great neighbor and friend of many years. A true gentleman and wonderful man. He will certainly be missed and may be he at peace after a long struggle.
