William J. Bosco, Sr., 99, of New York City, died Saturday afternoon at the Jewish Home Life Care Center, Manhattan. He is survived by his wife, the former Mercedes “Margie” Olivetti, who was born and raised in Dunmore. The couple celebrated 73 years of marriage on November 22.


Born in Traves, Italy, he was the son of the late Louis and Maria Olivetti Bosco.


He was an avid reader and enjoyed the New York Times crossword puzzles. He enjoyed dancing to the Big Band era music and was a Word War II history expert.   He loved to tell stories to all the youngsters in the family passing the rich history of things he saw and did in his long life.


Also surviving is a daughter Barbara Bosco, NY, NY; sons William J. Bosco, Jr. and wife Maureen, Suffern, NY and James R. Bosco, NY, NY; grandchildren Kelly Manzi and husband Anthony, William, III and wife Jennifer, and Michael and wife Cara; granddaughter-in-law, Traci Bosco-Myhal and husband Thomas; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother in law, Delvi J. Olivetti, Dunmore; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


He was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Edward Bosco, who was a victim of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.  

 

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a service at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.


Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow

 

Friends may call Thursday from 4-7pm


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Ave. Scranton, PA, 18509.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family and all who had the pleasure and luck of knowing Mr. Bosco.
His light will be deeply missed but his giant spirit will always sparkle on by how so very loved he was by so very many.
