Walter Kaplen, Melrose Park, PA, died Friday morning in Holy Redeemer Hospital Hospice.  His wife, the former Constance R. Rubin died in 2006.

 

Born in New Brunswick, NJ, son of the late Solomon and Pauline Cherkis Kaplen, he was a graduate of New York University and the Philadelphia College of Optometry.  A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.

Surviving are his daughters Debbie Kaplen-Feller and husband Gadi, Israel; and Ruth Egel and husband Dr. James, KY; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers. 

Graveside services will be held Sunday at noon in the Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore, by Rabbi Daniel Swartz.  There will be no local shiva.

Walter was an exemplary man that I am glad to have known. He has lived a full life and touched the lives of many others in the process. The kindness he has shown me and the warmth of his company will not be forgotten. Peace be with him and Egel family.
