Vito G. LoRusso, Sr., 86, of Dunmore, died Friday in the V.N.A. Hospice at Geisinger-Community Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Carole Sammon, who died in 2002.
Born in Dunmore, son of the late Salvatore and Bernetta Gerardi LoRusso, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II, later becoming a member of the Dickson City Branch of the American Legion. He was the past owner of LoRusso’s Restaurant in Dunmore and was affectionately known as “The Meatball Man” throughout his cooking career. During his retirement, he participated and cooked for numerous church spaghetti and meatball dinners. Vito was a member of the Myrtle Street United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men where he was a past president. He also sang in the choir and was a certified lay speaker. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Surviving is a daughter Kathleen LoRusso, Dunmore; and son Vito LoRusso and wife Janet, Pittson; granddaughters Maygan and Gina LoRusso; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Pastor Patricia Lee of the Myrtle Street United Methodist Church. Interment to follow in the Dunmore Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5-8 p.m.
