Thomas L. "Tom" Piontko passed peacefully on June 3, 2014, with his loving wife, Lynn, by his side.
Born in Peckville, son of the late Thomas and Mary Palys Piontko, he was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Olyphant, and attended Penn State University.
A dedicated soldier, he served in the Army, E-5, tour of duty in Vietnam. So young, proud, strong and brave, he was discharged in 1971. The influence of the United States Armed Forces stayed with Tom all his life-Protect and Serve. The other love of his life besides his wife and family was "Old Glory"-Red, White and Blue. Those were his colors.
He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and the D.A.V.
He was previously employed by the Trane Company, Anemostat and Tobyhanna Army Depot.
He also loved football, movies, all kinds of tools to build things with, cooking, grilling and watching beautiful sunsets with his wife in our garden.
Tom's family was the world to him. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend. In addition to his wife, Lynn, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ann Marie and George Marcinko, Throop; nieces and nephews, Shawn, Linda, David, Trisha and Bob; and sisters-in-law, Nancy and Betsy. He was a member of the Human Society, and had dogs named Murphy, Boo and finally Bob.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Christopher.
The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant, followed by military honors outside the church. All those attending the mass are asked to go directly to the church.
Friends may call Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.
