Susan A. Ruby Kobar of Dunmore died Wednesday, Nov. 23 in the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania. Her husband, the late Louis S. Kobar, died May 13, 2004.

Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late John and Ann Yatsko Ruby, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School class of 1935 and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. She had been a member of the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Women’s Guild and served as past president of its Altar and Rosary Society. She also served as past president of both the Marian Convent Guild and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, secretary of the former Dunmore Central Catholic Mother’s Club, and was a former member of the 800 Club at Immaculate Conception Church in Scranton. Before her marriage, she worked in advertising at Household Outfitters.

She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Sandercock and husband, Charles, of Waverly; and granddaughter, Emily Sandercock; as well as her nephew, John Miklus, of Quakertown, Pa., whom she raised like a son; nieces and nephews; and her best friend since high school, Carolyn Colo.

Susan’s family would like to thank the staff of the fourth floor of the Jewish Home and to her caregivers Tana, Sue and Marlene for all there dedicated and loving care.

She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Miklus and Mary Ruby; and brothers, John, Joseph and George Ruby.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Throop.

Friends may call Sunday evening at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. 

Contributions in Susan’s memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, 18509; or to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore, 18509.

Jacqueline and family and John I was sorry to hear of Sue's passing. She was a kind and caring neighbor and always friendly. I will remember her in my prayers.
