Rocco J. Marzolino, 87, a former Dunmore resident, died Sunday at Mountain View Care Center. His wife, the former Shirley Joan Koch, died in 2003.
Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Domnick and Nellie Sabetilla Marzolino. A 1945 graduate of Dunmore High School, he proudly served in the Army during World War II with the 1349th Miilitary Police Service Command Unit, and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the Occupation of Japan Medal and the .45 Caliber Sharpshooter medal. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, North Scranton. Before retirement, he was employed by Capitol Records and Topps Chewing Gum. Rocco enjoyed his family and his home and was a sports enthusiast, and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Phillies.
His family would like to thank the staffs of Mountain View Care Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all their dedicated care.
Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Phillips, Sayre, Pa.; and Laurie Oswell and husband, David, Scranton; a son, Michael, Throop; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Lee, in 1968; and several brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., North Scranton. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Family and friends may call Wednesday morning, 8:45 to 10:15, at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.
