Rita Lou Nivert Kramer, 69, of Scranton, died Friday afternoon in Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore.  She and her husband, Howard Kramer, celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on June 18th

 

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Albert and Pearl Glaser Nivert, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree from New York University, and her master’s degree from the former Marywood College.  Rita taught English in Killeen, TX, and later at the Scranton Hebrew Day School.  She had also been employed with the city of Scranton and served as one of the founding members of the Women’s Resource Center.  Rita was the owner and operator of Creativity Unlimited, a local art gallery that featured all women artists.  She was a former member of both Temple Israel and Temple Hesed of Scranton.

 

Also surviving is a daughter Julie Kramer and husband Niko Triantafillou, and a son, Jacob Kramer and wife Sara Clough, all of New York City; grandchildren Josephine Clough Kramer and Elias Shepard Clough Kramer; and a sister, Linda Schwartz and husband Raymond, Philadelphia; nieces, nephews and cousins. 

 

The funeral will be Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.  Interment, Dalton Jewish Cemetery. 

 

Shiva will be privately observed.

We had such happy times together as girls and young wives. I treasure the memory of Rita as I knew her then, young and lovely and a good friend. Condolences to Howard and the family.

Rita was a shinning light in the Central High School class of 62. I remember her well.

We will all meet again.
