Peter A. Castellano, 88, of Dunmore, died Friday morning in St. Mary's Villa in Elmhurst Twp. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ruth F. Wilczynski, in 2013, and to whom he was married for 53 years. 

He was born, raised and lived in the same house on Lake Street in the Bunker Hill Section of Dunmore, son of the late Frank R. and Angelina Trusan Castellano. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School, and in 1945, he was drafted into the Army during the closing days of World War II. Before retirement, he was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. A member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish and its Holy Name Society, he loved volunteering with his friends from the Bunker Hill Section of Dunmore for all church activities. He also volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 344 at St. Rocco's Church. He was a member of the Scranton Chapter of UNICO National, and during the late 1960s and '70s, he served as chairman of St. Rocco's Church picnic. 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of St. Mary's Villa for all the wonderful care shown to Peter during his times of need.

Surviving are a son, Attorney Frank P. Castellano and wife, Cammie; a granddaughter, Grace Ann Castellano, who was his favorite person in the world; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Connor, New Providence, N.J.; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Ann.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rocco's Church, Luke Avenue and Kurtz Street, Dunmore. Interment to follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. 

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
