Paul R. “Sharkey” Lydon, 82, of Dunmore, died Wednesday morning at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa., Scranton. He and his wife, the former Beverly Murphy, had celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Born in the Minooka section of Scranton, son of the late John and Lavina Hefferon Lydon, Paul was a graduate of South Catholic High School and the University of Scranton, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in history. He was an Army veteran having served in the Medical Corps. Paul was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore, as well as a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the Irish American Men’s Association and the Purple Club at the University of Scranton. Before retirement, he was the administrative director of the emergency room at Mercy Hospital in Scranton for 30 years.
He enjoyed golfing, reading, history and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. 
Also surviving are a daughter, Shauna Munshower and her husband, Dr. John, Wayne, Pa.; two sons, Timothy Lydon and his wife, Theresa, Shavertown; and Colin Kelly Lydon, Esq. and his wife, Tammy, Harrisburg; four sisters, Dolores O’Grady, Waverly; Rita Smith, Camp Hill; Dottie Joseph and her husband Dr. Arthur, Columbia, S.C.; and Kaye MacGregor and her husband Robert, Scranton; a brother-in-law, William Murphy, Esq. and his wife, Suzanne, Broomall; 10 grandchildren, Conor, Jared and Madison Lydon, of Harrisburg; Joshua, Kathleen and Christian Lydon, of Shavertown; and Amanda, John, Joseph and Paul Munshower, of Wayne; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Paul W. Lydon, in 2008; two sisters, Joan Lydon and Sister William Joseph Lydon, R.S.M.; and two brothers, Jack and Dr. Joseph Lydon.
Paul’s family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa. second floor for the care and compassion shown to him. A special thanks to his devoted personal caretaker, Alma Clark, for always being there for Paul.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s honor to a charity of the donor’s choice.
