In Loving Memory of Paul "Pinky" Harowitz
Paul "Pinky" HarowitzScranton, PA December 14, 1930 ~ November 11, 2016 Date of Service: November 14, 2016
Paul Harowitz, 85, of Scranton, died Friday morning peacefully of congestive heart disease. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Jacob and Sarah Kleinberger Harowitz and was a graduate of Central High School and attended the University of Scranton. He was involved in his family’s restaurant business known as the Railroad YMCA located in the 100 block of Lackawanna Avenue in Scranton which never closed its doors for over 52 years. Later Paul worked for another restaurant in its food distribution department where he made many friends including two Pennsylvania Governors.
He was an unassuming man, daily reader of the entirety of the Scranton Tribune and the Scranton Times, able to converse on any subject especially sports, current events and family. He never forgot one’s birthday and always asked about the welfare of friends and relatives. He had a dry wit and indulged his family with his gentle humor. He was a big fan of the former Scranton Red Sox, the University of Scranton basketball and the University of Michigan football programs. He will be sadly missed.
Surviving are twelve nieces and nephews who were devoted to him owing to his kind, good-hearted ways.
He was preceded in death by sisters; Peggy Land and Hilda Green and brothers; Shyer, Herbert, Myron and Filmore.
A grave side service will be held on Monday at 1:00pm in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery by Rabbi Mordechai Fine.
