Ottilia L. "Lottie" Collins, 85, of Dunmore, died Sunday in Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Collins, on July 16, 2001.
Born in Gangkofen, Bavaria, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Maria Stiersdorfer Gruber. Raised and educated in Bavaria, she had been employed as a nurse at the former Scranton State General Hospital and also at Harper Collins Publishing Company, prior to retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Dunmore, the Dunmore Senior Center, where she served as president of its Senior Site Advisory Council, and the South Scranton Senior Center. She was an avid quilter who enjoyed cooking, gardening and the company of her many friends.
Her family would like to thank the staffs of the Compassionate Care Hospice and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all their care, and a special thank you to her dedicated caregiver and dear friend, Chris Darko and to Mark and Diane Pegula and her many wonderful neighbors.
Surviving are a son, Garret A. Collins and his wife, Shannon, Kingston; three granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Zoe and Gwynne Collins; five sisters, Terese Weiss, Fanne Forster, Elfride Schatzhuber, Rosa Stübs and Paula Killermann; and two brothers, Otto and Sepp Gruber, all of Germany; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Maria Stunz and Anneliese Gonnschorek.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 East Drinker St., Dunmore, Interment in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township.
