Miriam Gans, Scranton, died Wednesday afternoon in the Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gans who died in 1996.
Born in Pottsville, daughter of the late Alex and Susie Cohen Mushkin, she graduated from the Scranton public school system and later went on to attend college. She was a member of the Machzikeh Hadas Congregation.
Surviving is a daughter Rose Shana Feder of Passaic, NJ; and sons Howard of Paramus, NJ, Murray of Lawrence, NY, and Alex of Scranton; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Harriet Smertz; and brothers Bert and Herbert Mushkin.
The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. in Machzikeh Hadas, Olive St., and Monroe Ave., Scranton, with services by Rabbi Mordechai Fine. Interment in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery.
Shiva will be observed through Friday at the home of her son, Alex, at 712 Clay Ave., Scranton, with his siblings available to receive guests though Wednesday afternoon.
