Hollywood, FL August 2, 1919 ~ December 8, 2012 Date of Service: December 12, 2012

Mildred "Sissy" Halprin, the wife of former Scranton School Board president, the late Norman Halprin, passed away on Saturday after a brief illness. She was 93. She died at her home in Hollywood, Fla., surrounded by family.

All five of her children were with her throughout her illness including daughters, Ellen Strauss, Barbara (Jack) Rose; and Nancy Halprin; sons, Jay (Cathy) Halprin; and Steven (Lisa) Halprin. Also surviving are granddaughters, Lisa Rose (Rob) Reber; Jaime Rose (Matt) Drummy; and Jessica Halprin (Justin) Ward; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Active throughout her life in many charitable causes, Mrs. Halprin was a life member of Hadassah, ORT and the Brandeis National Women's Committee. In Scranton she chaired drives for the March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.

After moving with her family to Tupper Lake and Malone, N.Y., in the early 1960s, Mrs. Halprin became involved in a new venture, raising standard bred trotters and pacers on the family's Happy Acres Stock Farm in Malone. She was most proud of prize winner, My Gage. After her husband passed away in 1984, Mrs. Halprin moved to Florida where she continued her charitable endeavors.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., in Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Joseph Mendelsohn. Interment in Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore. The family will be sitting shiva at the home of Seth and Sheryl Gross, 809 Quincy Ave., Scranton, Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Because she supported so many charitable organizations, donations in her memory may be made to any worthy organization

Hi Ellen,

I am so sorry about your mom. She sure had an intersting life. I had no idea that she raised trotters and really loved Malone, New York.

You take care and if you want any help or support, give me a call.

Love,

Marlene
