Maureen C. Meehan of Dunmore died Saturday morning at home after an illness.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John Linus and Mary Louise O'Hora Meehan, she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore, where she also taught CCD. A graduate of St. Paul's High School, she went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Marywood College, and then to Fordham University, where she received her master's degree in social work. Before retirement, she was employed as a social worker and administrator in the Drug and Alcohol Program at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., for many years.
She enjoyed traveling, where she made numerous friends and was a member of the Marywood Alumni Association as well as the Philharmonic League of Northeast Pennsylvania.
Maureen's family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Sinclair's Home Care Registry and to her caregiver, Vita Morgan, for all of the kindness shown during her times of need.
Surviving are her brothers, John Meehan, Robert Meehan and wife, Pierrette; and Thomas Meehan and wife, Sharon; nieces and nephews, William, Patrick and Kelly Meehan, Marissa Tucker, Geralyn Vecerkauskas, and Thomas Meehan; great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins,
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment to follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
