Lester Block, 92, of Scranton, died Sunday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton.
His wife the former Florence Rabkin died in 2009.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Nathan and Mary Block.
He was a graduate of Technical High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to retirement, he owned and operated Lily Cleaners and later was employed by American Credit Company.
He was a member of Temple Israel and Beth Shalom Congregation, and a member of the Jewish Community Center Senior Adult Program and the Jewish War Veterans.
Surviving are two daughters, Shelley Block and husband Lee Levine of Chevy Chase, MD and Jane Beeman and husband Robert Beeman of Rockville, MD; two granddaughters, Hilary Levine and Sara Levine Rosenblum, both of New York, NY; sister Rose Chaskin, Scranton and sister-in-law Carole Rabkin, Boca Raton, Fla. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Block, and sisters Lillian Dumoff and Frances Rudolph.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 East Drinker Street, Dunmore with services by Rabbi Joseph Mendelsohn and Cantor Vladimir Aronzon. Interment in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Elan Gardens,465 Vernard Rd.
