Leonard Hopkins, of Elan Gardens, Clarks Summit, died on  Sunday at home.  He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Gytelle Freed.


Born in Scranton, and a lifelong resident of the city, he was the son of the late Samuel and Minnie Strauss Hopkins.  A graduate of Scranton Central High School, he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA.   He worked for the U.S. Government at the Tobyhanna Army Depot for 40 years prior to retirement.


He was a member of Temple Israel, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, Amos Lodge B’nai Brith, Jewish Family Services, the Jewish Community Center, and the Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers.


Surviving is a son, Jeffrey Hopkins, Whitehall, PA, a daughter, Lisa (Hopkins) Oldham, Harvard, MA, and three grandchildren, Connor, Shea, and Kian Oldham. 


He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dora Rosenberg and Mae May, and a brother, Joseph Hopkins. 


The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m.  in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore,  with Rabbi Mordechai Fine officiating.  Burial will be in the West Pittston Jewish Cemetery. 


Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. 


There will be no local shiva.
