Josephine A. Martin, 97, of Dunmore, died Friday morning in VNA Hospice at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. Her husband, Michael A. Martin, died June 10, 1984. The couple had been married for 38 years.


Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Jessie DelVecchio Germano and attended the Dunmore public schools. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore. Prior to retirement, she worked as a Presser at Spotless Cleaners.


She was a devoted catholic and volunteered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and at St. Joseph’s Center Annual Summer picnic. She enjoyed baking and cooking and was a member of the Senior Center in Throop. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.


Surviving are daughters Mary Jo Martin, Covington Township; and Michele Van Syckel and husband William, Elburn, IL; a son, Michael Martin and wife Sari, Olyphant; grandchildren Christine Bean, Nicole Smith, Ashlin and Michael Martin; great-grandchildren Arianna, Martin and John; a sister, Marie Canavan, Dunmore; several nieces, nephews and cousins.


She was preceded in death by brothers, Dominick and Peter Germano.


The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc.,  318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore.


Entombment, Cathedral Cemetery.


Friends may call Monday from 4-7 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 322 Chestnut St. Dunmore, 18512.

Mary Jo, Christine, Nicole and family, I was so sorry to hear of your mom's (grandmother's) passing. She lead a long good life. Treasure your memories they will help you through it all.
