Joseph M. Celano, 86, Dunmore, died Wednesday at home surrounded by his loving family. He and his wife, the former Lois DeVol, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Sept. 20, 2016.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Passarella Celano. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and, before retirement, he was employed at the Tobyhanna Army Depot and thereafter in the maintenance department of the Dunmore School District.

He was very active with the Dunmore Midget football league from its inception, and was a dedicated supporter and fan of the Dunmore Bucks football and basketball teams.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Gratz for his many years of compassionate care and also the fourth floor nurses and staff at Geisinger Community Medical Center and the VNA hospice nurses, especially Debbie, for all their dedicated and loving care.

Also surviving are a daughter, Deborah Englehardt, Throop; a son, Michael Celano and wife, Sally, Archbald; two grandchildren, E.J. Englehardt and wife, Morgan, Peckville; and Katie Wright and husband, Alan, Archbald; three sisters, Mary Celano, Dunmore; Carmella Hair, Charlotte, North Carolina; and Ann Atanasoff and husband, Burlin, Clarks Summit; and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ernest J. Englehardt.

The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Avenue and East Gibson Street, Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

Family and friends may call Saturday morning at Immaculate Conception Church from 9 until the time of Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
