Joseph E. McDermott of Olyphant went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 13, 2013.

 

Born in Carbondale, December 23, 1981, he was the son of John and Alice Graham McDermott, Olyphant.  He was a former member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church of Jessup.  Joseph graduated from LaSalle Academy, Bishop O’Hara High School, University of Scranton, and Kendall University in Chicago, Illinois.  He lived and worked in the Wrigleyville district of Chicago for 9 years.  He worked at Rand McNally and as an assistant manager at CVS in Chicago, Illinois.

 

Joseph will be remembered as a wonderful, caring, lovable son.  His smile lit up the whole room.  He surely will be missed by family and friends.  He was a gift from God.

 

Joseph enjoyed movies, (cheesy movies), computers, and Karate but mostly playing PS3 and Xbox.  He would call himself a computer geek.

 

Surviving are his brother, John P. McDermott, and sister Mari McDermott; Godmother Ann E. Graham; aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Joseph E. and Alice Schneider Graham; paternal grandparents Patrick G. and Frances Kelly McDermott; uncle Joseph E. Graham, Jr.; aunt Marguerite Miklus; and Godfather Henry Smith.

 

The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Avenue and East Gibson Street.  Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.  Interment in St. Mary’s Assumption #5 Cemetery, South Scranton.

 

Preferred memorial contributions in Joseph’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 613 Baltimore Dr., Suite # 3, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702; or to the American Cancer Society, 712 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor, PA 18517.
