Joseph D. Straub Jr., 83, of Dunmore, died Friday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Eileen Bruschelli. The couple had been married for 63 years.
Born in Dunmore, son of the late Joseph Sr. and Lena Bentler Straub, he attended Dunmore public schools and was a member of SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish, Dunmore. An Army veteran, he was the director of Dunmore borough's Department of Public Works before retirement.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved spending time at his lake house on Lake Ontario in New York. He enjoyed keeping busy and was a car mechanic for many years. He was a member of St. Stephen's Club, Scranton. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Also surviving are a son, Joseph III and wife, Michelle, Madison Twp.; a daughter, Carol Toro and husband, Tim, Clarks Summit; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Miller and husband, Homer; and Alice Domenick, all of Dunmore; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Straub, Ph.D; and a brother, Herbert Straub.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment, private at the convenience of the family.
