Joan M. Granahan Deykes, 70, of Dunmore, died Monday afternoon at home.  Her husband, the late George T. Deykes, Jr., died in 2008.


Born in Scranton, daughter of the late William and Margaret Keegan Granahan, she was a graduate of South Scranton Catholic High School, and was employed by Bulldog Maintenance of Honesdale. Joan always knew how to laugh, and enjoyed traveling, especially spending time at the Jersey Shore, and constantly having a bottle of Coca Cola at her side.  She was a kind and generous person who thought
about and endlessly cherished people and animals, especially her golden retriever, Riley.  A loving and caring mother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend, she will be deeply missed.


Surviving is her daughter, Lisa Granahan and fiancé Chuck Vennarini of Dunmore; sister Ellen Granahan, Dunmore; brother Joseph Granahan, Scranton; sisters-in-law Ellen Gordon, Scranton, and Laura Jones and husband Rev. Daniel, Dunmore; nieces and nephews, Atty. Kathleen Kane, Atty. Ellen Granahan, Joseph Granahan and wife Pam, Mark Granahan and Barbara Granahan, and Bill Boland and wife Cindy; as well as 13 great-nieces and nephews. 

 

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Boland; brother, William Granahan; niece Anne Kushner, and nephew, Michael Boland. 


The funeral will be Thursday with services at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1780 N. Washington Ave., Scranton.  Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Lisa and Family (Rielly) There are no words to describe what a special lady your mother was. I will always smile when I think of her. I will always be grateful that our paths crossed. She was the sweetest, kindest person I ever meet. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND

Joan was one of the kindest people I knew and I am very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you as well.
