James A. Pichiarello, 90, of Jefferson Township, formerly of Dunmore, died Tuesday at home after an illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Kiesel. The couple celebrated 57 years of Marriage on May 14th.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Genett Pichiarello and was a member of SSAnthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore and a United States Army Veteran, serving in World War II. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and received a business degree from the former Lackawanna Business College, Scranton.

He was the owner and operator of Jim’s Superette in the Bunker Hill section of Dunmore as well as a founding member of Affiliated Food Distributors, Inc. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandsons and attending their school functions and sporting events. Jimmy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family.The family wishes to thank Dr.John Diakiw, Dr. Robert Kaville, Dr. Matt Haley, Traditional Home Health and Hospice and all of their nurses and staff, especially nurses, Barbara, Michelle and Andrea and aids, Karen, Cathy and Patty for all of their care and compassion.

Also surviving is a son; Joseph and wife Mary Ellen, Dunmore; daughters; Mary Beth Pichiarello, Fairfield, CT. and Ann Jeneski and husband Robert, Delmar, NY. Grandsons; James and Joseph Pichiarello and John and James Janeski; a sister; Angelica Marciano, Scranton, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by sisters; Frances Gentile, Blanche Scavone and Ella Pichiarello.

The funeral will be Friday with Mass at 11am. in St. Rocco’s Church, Bunker Hill section, Dunmore.

There will be no public calling hours
