John “Jack” J. Atkinson, 77, of Scranton, died December 10, 2015, in the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Kravarik. The couple celebrated 24 years of marriage on September 28th.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Genevieve Campbell Atkinson and attended the Scranton Public Schools. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church, Scranton. He was a Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War. Prior to retirement  he worked for Bolus Freight Systems.

He was the past commander of the American Legion Post 306, Taylor and enjoyed bartending. He was an avid reader of books on World War II and enjoyed watching Western and War movies. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop putting together model trains  with his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his best friend, Joe Murray.  The family wishes to thank the staff at the Regional Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit for all of their care and compassion.

Also surviving are daughters; Ann Marie Sabia and husband Joe and Kim Kuehner and husband Bill, all of Dunmore; Robin Oparnica and husband James and Carrie Lynn Alexandrovich and husband Ray, all of Florida. A sister; Marion Hanis, Taylor. Grandchildren; Billy, Jr., Nick and Jessica Kuehner and Samantha Heaver, and Amanda, Stephen and Christopher Alexandrovich. Great- grandchildren; Ezra Kuehner and Lily Alexandrovich. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by brothers; William, Jr. and Thomas Atkinson.

There is a memorial service on Saturday at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore at 4pm.

Friends may call from 2-4pm

Interment is private at the convenience of the family
