Helen Rabecs DeCarlo, 94, Dunmore, passed away Thursday evening in St. Mary’s Villa, Elmhurst Township.  She was preceded in death by her first husband John Rabecs and by her second husband, Michael DeCarlo.

 

Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Augusta Bentler Straub.

She was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a member of St. Casimir’s Church in Dunmore prior to its closing.  Helen was a homemaker who loved all in her family deeply. There is nothing she enjoyed more than having her family around her. She loved sitting on her front porch feeding the birds or just reading a book. She also enjoyed holiday get-togethers, making her homemade pierogi and kalachi.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Villa for their kind and compassionate care of our dear mother.

 

Surviving are daughters Rosemary Alt and husband Arthur, Madisonville; and Carol Towarnicki, Old Forge; sons John Rabecs, Carbondale; and Michael Rabecs, Dunmore;

grandchildren, Kimberly Alt, Carbondale; Arthur Alt and wife Tracie, Madisonville; John Alt, Moscow; Bob Towarnicki and companion Lisa Croman, Old Forge; Dave Towarnicki and spouse Christian Cumberlander, Florida; Bonnie Campbell and husband, William, Florida; Nicole Rabecs, Dunmore; and also granddaughter Lauren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews.

 

She was also preceded in death by a son George; a sister Anna Conway and her late husband, Joseph Conway; brother Albert Straub and his late wife Erika and an infant brother, Charlie Boy; and a great-grandchild William Campbell Jr.

 

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St. Dunmore.  Interment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township. 

 

Friends may call Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dear Cousins, After 94 years we hope your Mom enters into eternal rest with all of her loved ones waiting to greet her. We will be keeping her in our prayers and remembering all the family picnics and Uncle John's bar parties we enjoyed so many years ago. God Bless all of you.

Dear Cousins, sorry about your Mom's passing. At 94 we knew the old days would become memories and we do enjoy thinking back of the picnics and Uncle John's bar parties.May she become young and strong again to join all her family and friends that have gone on to that eternal rest.
