In Remembrance of Dorothy A. Boccella

Dorothy A. Boccella

Dorothy A. Boccella

Dunmore, PA Feb. 9, 1960 ~ July 16, 2013 Date of Service: July 19, 2013

Dorothy A. Boccella, 53, Dunmore, passed away Tuesday morning at home surrounded by her family following a brief illness.  She and her husband, Gerald J. “Jerry” Boccella celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary this past June 26th.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Sarkis and Dorothy Dyer Abdalla, she was a graduate of West Scranton High School Class of 1978, and went on to attain both her Bachelor’s Degree in 1982 and Master’s Degree from the University of Scranton.  She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and had been employed at the Abington Community Library, where she loved her job and coworkers.

Dorothy, who had a heart of gold, was known for being extremely kind and thoughtful to everyone, always placing the needs of others before her own, even so much as putting her career aside to raise her family.  The material things in life didn’t matter to her—what was most important was the well-being of her family whom she truly adored.  Her favorite times were those moments spent with the ones she loved, baking, and knitting.  She was a friend to all, and loved by everyone.

Dorothy’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to Traditional Home Health and Hospice for their compassion and skill, and making this most difficult time manageable for them.

Also surviving are sons Michael and wife Diana of Eynon, and Nicholas and wife Ashley of Clark, NJ; sisters Nancy Savitsky and husband Tony of Norwich, NY; Marie Littell of Clarks Summit; and Mary Lou Baldys and husband Rick of Williamsport; a brother Charles Abdalla and wife Julie of State College; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law Greg Littell.

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St.. Dunmore.  Interment to follow in the Dunmore Cemetery.  Friends may call Thursday evening in the funeral home from 5-8 p.m.

Only knowing Dorothy and your family for four years while our sons were at Bucknell...it was easy to see the love and devotion she had to her sons and husband...and how she had guided her sons to be such wonderful young men. Her legacy lives on in them. I can remember she and I cleaning and prepping for a get-to-gether at 7th street and her sweet beautiful smile and disposition that went with it. May the wonderful memories help to sustain you. We are so sorry for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of Dorothy's family at this extremely sad and difficult time.Dorothy was one of my first friends as a child and I Will Forever Cherish all the Memories of the adventures and fun we had.I will always remember her smile and her giggle. She was a wonderful caring person with a heart of gold.Although I didn't get to see her often as we got older whenever I did she would tell me about her wonderful husband and terrific boys.My heart is very saddened by the loss of my childhood friend and I can only imagine your loss.So very sorry she was taken away too soon.Cherish your memories and Dorothy will always live in your hearts!! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Dorothy babysat my son, Jordan, in 1986 or 1987. She was a lovely person.

My sympathies to the Abdalla and Bocella families. I'm shocked to hear this news. I went to High School with Dorothy and we worked together at Skettino's market. She was such a sweet person and she never changed. In recent years I often ran into her at local craft fairs where she sold her handmade knitted items. It was always great to see her and chat for a while. I have a beautiful scarf that she made to remember her by.
My sincere sympathy to all of you.

I was shocked to hear of Dorothy's passing. I went to grade school with Dorothy and high school. I was over her house many times and she was a great friend. I am very sorry to her family.
