Donato J. "Donnie" Summa

Clarks Summit, PA October 8, 1963 ~ June 21, 2015 Date of Service: June 25, 2015
Donato J. “Donnie” Summa, 51, Clarks Summit, died Sunday evening in the Hospice of Sacred Heart in Dunmore. He and his wife, the former Hilde Scheer, celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary on Oct. 1, 2014.
Born in Scranton, son of Andrew Summa of Scott Twp. and the late Janet Calorico Summa, Donnie graduated from Dunmore High School and then Gwynedd Mercy University in Philadelphia with a bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine. He was owner of Drew Envirkleen, and was a member of St. Gregory’s Church in Clarks Green.
Donnie was loved by so many, and was so genuine to his core. Everywhere he went he brought a smile from ear to ear paired with his lovable personality. He adored nothing more than being with his three girls, family, friends and enjoying life to the fullest. Anyone who knew him can remember him with his Tommy Bahama shirts, a cold drink in hand and enjoying the sunshine on his back porch. He was a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan, and lived for going to live games with his family. He was selfless, and always wanted the best for his family. He will be greatly missed, and it is hard to realize that he is with God now. Cancer may have brought on this fight, but Donnie never gave up. He had the strength of a fighter, and never once showed that he was hurting. This illness gave him an appreciation, sensitivity and an understanding of life that filled him with compassion, gentleness and a deep love. He was a beautiful person, and will never be forgotten.
His family would like to thank Drs. Lisa and Linda Thomas, their staff, the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart and also Dr. Peter O’Dwyer and his staff at the University of Pennsylvania for the care and compassion shown to Donnie and his family.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ashley Summa, Philadelphia; and Gabriella Summa, Clarks Summit; a sister, Jill Mariotti and husband, Richard, Clarks Summit; a brother, Dean Summa, Clarks Summit; his paternal grandmother, Mary Summa, Jefferson Twp.; a nephew and godson, Andrew Summa; a niece, Mia Summa; a nephew and niece, Andrew and Anna Mariotti; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Donato Summa; maternal grandparents, Helen and Joseph Calorico; and a father and mother-in-law, Henry and Gerthilda Scheer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory’s Church in Clarks Green. Interment will follow on the family plot in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Dunmore.
