Daniel J. Sullivan, 93, Scranton, died Tuesday morning at his home in Scranton after being stricken ill. His late wife was the former Romaine Culkin.
Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mary Moore Sullivan. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1937 and a graduate of the Temple Extension School. Daniel was a U.S. Army Veteran and was one of the original 90 Day Wonders- a 2nd Lieutenant while serving in Italy during the European Theatre of Operations during WWII. Prior to retirement he was employed by Addressograph - Multigraph Co. as aservice manager. He was also a member of St. John Neumann Parish in Scranton and The Nativity Social Club. He enjoyedtime spent as a member of the former ELKS Club in Scranton. His hobbies and enjoyments included membership in both golfing and bowling leagues. He also was a licensed ham radio operator with the call letters W3QGX, and during the flood of 1955 he acted as a source of communication during Hurricane Diane, when all other types of communication were disabled. Dan had a great love and knowledge of electronics and especially computers which he passed on to his grandchildren.
His love of life included conversing with people, he had a laugh that was infectious and he never grew old. This was exemplified by time spent volunteering at the former St. John Parish food pantry. His happiest times in life were spent surrounded by family at the holidays and he enjoyed his Friday night trips to Alfredo’s for pizza and Sunday breakfast at St. Eulaila’s Church in Elmhurst.
His family would like to thank Dr. Barry Minora for the outstanding and compassionate care provided to Daniel over the years.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Daniel Sullivan D.D.S. and his wife Donna, Dunmore, two daughters, Margaret Rebarchik and her husband Robert, Horseheads, NY, and Ann Hinton and her husband Jake, Scranton, six grandchildren, Dr. Abbey Orozco D.M.D. and her husband Dr. Jacob D.M.D., Philadelphia, Dr. Daniel Sullivan,D.M.D. and his fiancé Elizabeth Mazzei, Scranton, Chrissy Rebarchik, Baltimore, Dr. Michael Rebarchik O.D. and his wife Dr. Myloan Nguyen, O.D., Rehoboth Beach, DE, Michael Hinton, Philadelphia, and Bridget Hinton, Scranton, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Argust and Mary Sullivan, and a brother Gerard Sullivan.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30am in St. John Neumann Parish at Nativity of Our Lord Church on Orchard Street in Scranton. Interment will take place in the Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.
