Scranton, PA August 15, 1937 ~ Private Date of Service: Private

Charlene Prochaska Thomas, 79, of Scranton, passed away Thursday morning in the Greenridge Health Care Center, Scranton. Her husband, the late John ‘Jack” P. passed away on January 29, 2009. The couple had been married for 52 years.

Born in Plymouth, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Iona Allen Prochaska and was a proud alumnus of Plymouth High School, The Shawnee Indians, Class of 1955. She worked at various jobs throughout her life including Pennsylvania Life Insurance Co., Krispy Kreme and AAA Motor Club as a road assistance dispatcher where she retired from in 1996.

She enjoyed her life with her husband Jack especially spending summers at Lake Hideaway with friends Bernie and Dorothy Morahan. They shared a love of traveling to Maine, Florida, Gettysburg, Poconos and State College, Pa. Charlene spent every Saturday from 1972 until 1996 taking care of her aunt and uncle; Josephine and John Edwards. She tragically lost her mother at a very young age and a great deal of sadness and pain remained with her throughout her entire life. She found her greatest joy and happiness in her grandchildren and her generosity to them was unmeasurable, as she redefined the role of a grandmother.

A heartfelt thanks to the Greenridge Healthcare Center for all of their care and compassion and to her sweet roommate Antoinette Perry and family.

Surviving is a son; John P., jr. and wife Vicki, Scranton and daughters; Carol Roman and husband Jim, Dunmore and Claire Serowinski and husband Brian, Scranton.

Grandchildren; Carolyn H. Serowinski, State College and Ryan and Gwyneth Serowinski, Scranton, whom brought her such joy.

A sister, Judith Prochaska Borchert whom she deeply loved along with brother-in-law Eric, High Falls, NY and formerly of Plymouth and Larksville, Pa. A brother; Tom Prochaska and his wife Roberta, Houston Texas and their children Shannon and Brad.

nephews; Tom Borchert and wife Evelyn and Jason Borchert and wife Patricia. Grand-nieces; Morgan and Kristen and a grand nephew, Tyler and his son Mason were all near to her heart and never far from her thoughts.
