In Remembrance of Carmel Ann Galella

Carmel Ann Galella

Carmel Ann Galella

Scranton, PA ~ August 7, 2014 Date of Service: August 11, 2014

Carmel Ann Galella of Scranton died Thursday at home alongside her dedicated husband Thomas J. Galella, Jr.  after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. They would be celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary on August 18th.

Born in Dunmore, Carmel was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose Cianci Gallo.  She was a member of St. Peter’s Cathedral.  Before retirement, she was employed by the Scranton School District. She was a member of South Scranton Little League Auxiliary for many years and served as president for three years.  Carmel was a prior member of the Young Mother’s Club and she was also a licensed beautician.  Additionally, she volunteered her services at Community Medical Center when she was in good health.

Carmel cherished her time with her family.  She loved playing with her grandchildren, reading, walking and traveling with her husband and dear friends, Joe and Irene Paradise and Bob and the late Marian McDonough, and Phyllis Sileo.

Carmel’s dedication to her family could never be duplicated and her love for her husband, children and grandchildren will live on forever.

The family would like to express their very deep gratitude to Melissa, Sue, Stephanie, and Maylanna who aided in Carmel’s care along with V.N.A. Hospice, and to Bishop Timlin for visiting Carmel and being there for our family when he was needed the most.

Also surviving are sons Thomas J. Galella III, his wife Michelle, and their children Gianna, Mia and Julianna, all of Madison Township; and Robert Galella, his wife Suzanne, and their daughter Olivia, all of Tunkhannock; sisters Janet Coulihan of Delaware and Rose Ann Schlasta of Jermyn; brother Frank Gallo of Moosic; as well as nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton.  Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Route 435, Elmhurst Township.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of Mrs. Galella, her kindness, and her warm smile.

I suspect she and my Dad are in heaven organizing some wonderful events, and they are watching over and protecting us in ways they could no longer do here.

My deepest sympathy,
Catherine DelPrete

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Carmel Ann Galella. I have fond memories of her kindness and friendliness. Her husband Tom and I worked at the A & P on Monroe Avenue. I remember double dating with Tom and Carmel and spending fun evenings at the German American Club.

My prayers and condolences to the Galella family. Our world is a much better place because of Carmel's life.
