Carl Hafner of West Scranton died Saturday evening in Abington Manor while surrounded by his loving family. He and his wife, the former Geraldine Stasits, had celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on July 7.

 

Born in the Minooka section of Scranton, he was the son of the late Carl and Genevieve Conaboy Hafner. He was a graduate of South Scranton Catholic High School and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Scranton and regularly attended the St. Ann's Novena. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a tree expert by several local tree trimming companies.Carl was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family. He loved spending time with his great-grandchildren and especially discussing sports with Zachary.

 

His family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff at Abington Manor and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the compassion and care given to Carl.

 

Also surviving are a daughter, Geri Williams and her husband, Edward, Scranton; a granddaughter, Gerilynn Price and her husband, Shane, Scranton; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Chloe Price, Scranton; a brother, Patrick Hafner and his wife, Sharon, Tobyhanna; a sister-in-law, Peggy Hafner, Honesdale; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hafner; and a sister, Annjuan Hafner.

 

A private funeral Mass will be held and followed by full military honors.
