Anna Gambo Gambacorta, 98, of Dunmore, died Tuesday morning at the Green Ridge Health Care Center. She was the wife of Joseph Gambacorta, who died in 1950.

Born in the Hyde Park section of Scranton, daughter of the late Maxim and Thekla Mellnick, she eventually moved to Dunmore. Anna was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and its Altar and Rosary Society, as well as a member of the San Cataldo Club in Dunmore. Before retirement in 1975, she had been employed at the Grove Silk Mill in Dunmore.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who lived for her family. Her family was truly her entire life. She was constantly taking care of family and checking in on them to make sure they were alright. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends and she took pleasure in sewing and gardening. She will be remembered as an avid homemaker.

Anna's family would like to thank the staff at Green Ridge Health Care Center for the love and compassion shown to "Grandma" during her stay with them.

Surviving are a daughter, Carmella Gregory and husband, John, Dunmore; a son, Angelo Gambo and wife, Irene, Dunmore; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Gambacorta, Scranton; a sister, Pauline Melnick Cordaro, Peckville; grandchildren, Tamara Gregory and fiancé, Gary Valvano, Dunmore; Lisa Gregory, Dunmore; John Gregory Jr., Dunmore; Joseph Gregory and wife, Melissa, Dunmore; Heidi Asman and husband, Ryan, Dunmore; Anthony Gambacorta and wife, Mary Kay, Philadelphia; Joseph Gambacorta and wife, Linda, Dunmore; Theresa Stahl and husband, Jason, Hoboken, N.J.; great-grandchildren, Spencer and Alexandra Asman, Nina, Claire, Mia Rose and Julia Grace Gambacorta, Levi Stahl, and Vincenza Rose Gregory.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Gambacorta Jr.; three grandsons, Joseph, Mark and Christopher Gambo; and four brothers, Joe, Steve, Michael and Frank Melnick.

The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore. Those attending Mass are asked to go directly to the church.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

two years have passed since you left but we still love and miss you as if it just happened....we all feel your presence with us and the same love and devotion you had for us that never passes on...i hope all who read this on the anniversary of you passing know what an awesome and incredible woman you were are and always will be to all of us...there will never be another mother and grandmother like you...you set an example we all learned from .....priceless

I send my sincere condolences to you on the passing of your mother (my great Aunt). You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
