Angelo J. "Stymie" Rizzo

Angelo J. “Stymie” Rizzo, 85, Dunmore, died Monday morning in the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Fitzgerald who died in 1980.

Born in Dunmore, son of the late John and Mary Rose Marsala Rizzo, he attended Dunmore public schools and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to retirement, he had been employed at Clarks Summit State Hospital and for many years was a Dunmore Plumbing Inspector. After retirement he enjoyed his position at the Marjon Golf Course. He enjoyed camping and golfing, and also enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones at family gatherings.

Surviving is his companion and best friend, Herta Rizzo, Dunmore; Stephen Limani, Joseph Limani, James Malsberger, Lisa Malsberger, and Samantha Hazen, who he considered his grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Mary Rose Rizzo; a sister, Grace Coviello; and brothers James and John Rizzo.

Funeral services were privately held in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., Dunmore, by Rev. David P. Cappelloni. Interment took place in the St. John’s Cemetery, Throop.

I knew Stymie from golfing at Marjon. He was a great friend to myself and the rest of the "Marjon Mornings" league. Always looking for that driver that would get him five more yards ! Never forget him. May he rest in peace.
