Adeline L. "Addie" Galka, Dunmore, died Wednesday at home. She and her husband, Albert, would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in January.

 

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Stephen and Josephine Bellon Abbott, she was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore and its Altar and Rosary Society, and was a graduate of Scranton Technical School. Before retirement, she worked for the Dunmore School District food service department and in the local garment industry, and was a member of the ILGWU. She had been a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and was a member of the 50 Plus Club. Addie enjoyed spending time at the Dunmore Senior Center and was a member of Life Geisinger on the campus of Marywood University.

 

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who was dedicated to and enjoyed being with her family.Her family would like to thank the entire staff at Life Geisinger for all the love and compassionate care given to Addie over the past two years, especially her caregivers Caroline Alston and Angelina Morris.

 

She is also survived by a daughter, Joanne Walsh and her husband, Robert, Dunmore; three sons, Thomas and wife, Catherine, Roaring Brook Twp.; Albert and wife, Patricia, Archbald; and Stephen and wife, Elaine, Roaring Brook Twp.; grandchildren, Tom, Jeffrey, Brenda, Alison, Stephon and Ashley Galka, Kevin and Mark Walsh, and Tracy Kojsza; great-grandchildren, Alexis Galka, Rachel, Ava and Ella Walsh, and Aydan and Giuliana Kojsza; two sisters, Mable Cigna, Scranton; and Sister M. Concepta, Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, York, Pa.; nieces and nephews.

 

She was also preceded in death by sisters, Grace Truncali and Gloria Cali; and brothers, Lester, Casper and Stephen.The funeral will be Monday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment in the Italian-American Cemetery, South Scranton.Friends may call Monday morning from 9:45 to 10:45, at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. Anyone attending the Mass may go directly to the church.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Life Geisinger for their Patients Activities Fund, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, 18509; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
