John Anthony Franceschelli, Jr., 81, a lifelong resident of Dunmore, died Wednesday afternoon in the Mountain View Care Center in Scranton.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Evangeline LaBree. 

 Born in Dunmore, son of the late John and Concetta Nozzi Franceschelli, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1949 and graduated from Johnson Trade School in 1957.  A U.S. veteran, he served in the Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore.  He was a carpenter for over 50 years with Unions 261 and then 645, before retiring from the University of Scranton in 1995.  He was a member of numerous clubs and organizations such as the Dunmore Senior Center, the Dunmore YMCA, American Legion Post #13, The Royal Order of Landlocked Petty Officers, Boy Scout Troop 66 where he served for twelve years as Scout Master and had twelve Eagle Scouts to his credit and also continued to serve as a committeeman, and was a member of the Junior Mechanics #1022 Dunmore. 

 John enjoyed time every morning with the early coffee club at Burger King and the Friday nights at Maria’s Café. He loved camping, his tomato garden and shopping with his sister-in-law, Freda Avery. 

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John III and wife Karen, Farmington, MN; and Frederick and wife Gale, Archbald; grandchildren John IV, Natalie, Nina, Nicole, Frederick II, Amanda, Ian, Megan, Sean, Christopher; and 19 great-grandchildren.  He also enjoyed being a foster grandpa to 48 foster children.  Also surviving is an uncle, Albert Nozzi and wife Sara, Rochester, NY; aunts Jean Nozzi, Rochester, NY; and Gilda Nozzi, Dunmore; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Franceschelli, Madison Twp.

 He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Franceschelli and Dominic Franceschelli, who passed away on Tuesday, July 10th.

 The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore to be concelebrated by his nephew, Deacon John Franceschelli.  Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.  Friends may call Sunday afternoon in the funeral home from 2-5 p.m.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of John. I work at Burger King and enjoyed seeing him come in every morning. He was always very pleasant to wait on. John will be dearly missed by the morning crew at BK........
