Thomas M. "Murph" Murphy, 60, of Dunmore, died Saturday at home. His wife is the former Debbie Gyomory. The couple was married on Aug. 20, 1977.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Michael F. and Mary C. Gaughan Murphy. He was an
Army veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was a 1969 graduate of Dunmore High School. Before retirement, he was an electronics mechanic supervisor for Tobyhanna Army Depot, where he received the 25-Year Outstanding Achievement Award. He was a life member of McHugh-Bushweller VFW Post 3474, Dunmore.

Murph was a proud father and a quiet and humble man with a kind and generous heart. He enjoyed writing poems, especially for his three children. He was an avid Beatles fan and, during his high school years, he played guitar in the band the Peddlers with his childhood friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Also surviving are two sons, Thomas, Dallas, Texas; and Christopher, Asheville, N.C.; a daughter, April, at home; a sister, Joan Egan and husband, John, Lake Ariel; a brother, Michael Murphy and wife, Rose Ann, Roaring Brook Twp.; mother-in-law, Rose Ann Gyomory, Dunmore; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by father-in-law, Frank Gyomory.

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment Dunmore Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Dearest Debbie and family, i am shocked to hear of Murphs passing! so so sorry for missing everything, i had no idea. my thoughts r with u guys. if u need anything dont hesitate to call.our faith is what gets us threw these sad times. sincerely, cheri b.

I just learned of your loss and wanted to extend my condolences to all of Murph's family. Having known him since childhood, it really saddened me to learn of his unexpected passing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts are with family and friends who knew Murph well..from the old days when Murph played guitar in the band the Peddlers. To his family..I am sorry for your loss.

Both my wife & I were Instructors at Tobyhanna Army Depot. I probably taught Tom in more classes though, as I was an Electronics Instructor for 25 years. Spent many great times with "Murph" & one of his best buds Vince at the Hideaway, shooting pool & just enjoying each others company. We will miss him.
