Salvatore J. Rinaldi, 87, of Dunmore, died Monday at Regional Hospital of Scranton after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Sara Riggi. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 18, 2011.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late James and Marie Martinelli Rinaldi and was a member of SS Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore and its Alter and Rosary Society. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Upon returning home after military service he was employed as a butcher in the area, most notably at Riccardo’s Market, Dunmore. He was an avid sports fan; one would find him watching anything from baseball to football on any given day of the week. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Also surviving is a son, James and wife Pamela, Hackettstown, New Jersey; daughters; Lucy Ann Norton and husband Jim, Scranton; Mary Ann Viola and husband Mike, Dunmore. Grandchildren; Jim, Michael, Kristin and Jonathan. A brother William Vito Rinaldi, and a sister Grace Coccia, both of Dunmore. Several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis funeral home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with Mass at 9:30a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Smith St., Dunmore.

Interment, Dunmore Cemetery

Friends may call Thursday from 4-7p.m.

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Dr., Wilkes-Barre, Pa 18702
