Frances S. VanBergen Wynne, 87, of Dunmore, died Sunday evening in Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. Her husband, Paul F. Wynne, died Aug. 23, 1988.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Henry L. and Josephine Lees VanBergen and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore. She was a graduate of St. Paul's High School and before retirement, was employed by Pennsylvania Gas & Water Co. as a customer information representative.

Frances enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treated everyone she met with respect and dignity and had a great sense of humor. In 1986, she was nominated for and won The Sunday Times Personality of the Week Award, presented by The Scranton Times. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Gerard Nealon and the nurses and staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton for all of their care and compassion.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Jo Wynne, Dunmore; Charlotte Summa, Dunmore; and Cynthia Kelly and husband, Jerome, Clarks Summit; a sister, Marie VanBergen Mansuy, Dunmore; grandchildren, Lauren C. Summa, Mark P. Summa, Christopher S. Summa, Joanna W. Summa, and Katie K. Loughney and husband, Matthew; great-grandsons, Connor Holt and Cory Domiano; nephews, Christopher H. Mansuy and wife, Merrily, Doylestown; and Bucky Mansuy and wife, Jane, Collegeville; and several cousins.

She was also preceded in death by sisters, Gretchen VanBergen, Emmy Lou Mansuy and Charlotte M. VanBergen; and a nephew, Jeffrey Mansuy.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc. 318, E. Drinker St. Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. In St. Mary's Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA 18411 or Lackawanna Association for the Blind, 228 Adams Ave. Scranton, PA 18503.

Chickie and family - we were very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. May the memories of happier times carry you through this difficult time.

I'm so sorry to hear about Fran's passing. I worked with her for years at the former PG&W and she was always a bright spot in everybody's day. She was a real genuine lady in every sense of the word, very kind and generous. She will be sadly missed.
