Salvatore R. "Wootchie" Mecca, 83, of Dunmore, died Wednesday evening in Allied Skilled Nursing Facility, Scranton.

Born in Dunmore, son of the late Rocco and Vita Marie Summa Mecca, he was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish. He was a 1949 graduate of Dunmore High School and before his retirement in 1993, he worked in the local garment industry for more than 50 years.

He was a kind, hardworking gentleman who was devoted to his family and friends. He was a devout Catholic and loved his family, the New York Yankees and all Dunmore High School sports, especially the boys' and girls' basketball teams and would never miss a game.

His family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Linda Barrasse, Dr. Gerald Nealon and the staff of Regional Hospital of Scranton, Davita Dialysis and Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. A special thanks to Alan Goldstein for his devotion and friendship.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, including his caregivers, Charles and Ann Marie Mecca, Kim and Harrison Rapp, and Angelo Summa.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, William, Frank, Angelo and Donato Mecca; and four sisters, Margaret Mecca, Rose Nicastro, Carmella Andreoni and Jean Bocchino.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore. All those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral.

Friends may call today, 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity.
